Your Mom

Newsletter No. 18 – May 10th, 2024

Your mom.

This is a loaded phrase, full of emotions. The second you hear it, your mind will immediately jump to your own experience with your mother – be it joyful, painful, or somewhere in between.

Sit with it.

When I speak with clients and ask them to tell me about their moms, rarely is it a milk-toast response. Every mom is an influential figure in their child’s life, in one way or another.

So, let’s be real. For some, Mother’s Day will incite happy feelings of love, care, and concern. For others, there will be an emptiness from the loss of a beautiful woman who nurtured and supported until the very end. And for others still, it may trigger a heavy sigh and a deep eye-roll.

If you find yourself in either of the first two situations, take a moment this Mother’s Day weekend to remind that special someone of how much they mean to you or spend a few minutes reflecting on the love you enjoyed while they were around, picking you up and dusting you off.

For those in the latter group, those hurting and wounded, I pray your heart heals and that the panacea of time bandages the wounds inflicted by actions, intentions, and the complexity of human behavior. And potentially – just potentially – use this weekend to craft a new beginning, the start of a new chapter that may alter the trajectory of your relationship.

After all, you only have one. You will only get one. Try to make that One matter.
